Asia travel links
Recommended links to Asia travel sites-
Asiaphoto is a collection of travelogues, travel tips and travel information by a German photographer with many very good photos of his trips to Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Burma and Indonesia. Well worth a look if you are interested in those countries.

This Malaysia-based budget airline offers incredibly cheap fares to many south-east Asian countries. Aircraft are modern Boeing 737s and Airbus 320s. Seats are a sqeeze but fares are often cheaper than bus fares if you book early enough.

I used to use this site a lot when traveling to book hotels. The customer reviews were what set this apart from similar sites, but now they only have bogus 'anonymous' reviews (probably written by the hotels) so I'm looking for an alternative.

General travel links
Links to other good travel sites - they cover Asia but are not Asia specific-
Of course this site was established to promote Lonely Planet guidebooks (which I use all the time) but it is still one of the best travel sites on the web. The Thorn Tree forum is well worth using if you are looking for specific advice or recommendations.

This is an excellent site where over 12,000 travel articles and photo albums have been posted. The articles and photos range from very good to very bad, so you may have to sift through a few to find what you are looking for. A great site just to browse.
-
A relatively new site (started in 2002) with travel articles and photographs. I haven't been through this site in a lot of detail yet, but the few articles on Malaysia that I read were of very high quality.

You may think this is a strange recommendation for a travel website, but I have found this factbook very useful for sourcing 'offical' information on countries that you may not find on travel websites. Updated regularly. Great for geography students too!

Travel photography links
(See links under 'personal stuff' for non-travel related photography links)-
This is the website of Quang-Tuan Luong who is a professional landscape and nature photographer. His pictures of Asia are superb and comprise just one section of an impressive website containing over 9,000 pictures from all parts of the world.
-
This is the travel photography site of a German photographer. He covers about a dozen Asian countries and his photographs are very good.
-
Over 4,000 photos by another German photographer. His are of Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos, Nepal, Myanmar and Brunei. Also some travelogues. His photographs are very good, although it would have been better if there weren't so many to sort through.
-
Photos from Malaysia, Cambodia, Nepal, Myanmar, Taiwan, Thailand and Singapore. Some good photos and some average. The site is a little hard to navigate and, being commercially hosted, you will be bombarded with cookies. But still worth a browse.
-
Some very good photos from around the world - includes albums from China, Hong Kong, Russia's Far East and Indochina.
-
Another website hosted by Phil Douglis which he describes as a 'cyberbook' titled "Travel Photojournalism: Communicating with Pictures." This site features some of his best photography and provides a good tutorial for amateur travel photographers
-
TrekEarth's theme is 'learning about the world through photography'. It does this by allowing photographers to display their pictures and having them critiqued by other members. It is a very active site and you can learn a lot from the critiques.
-
An informative website devoted to the Angkor Photography festival which is held each year in Nov/Dec in Siem Reap, Cambodia. It brings together photographers of diverse nationalities and cultures. and has a worthy outreach programme to help street kids.
